    This paper introduces a novel admission test for partitioned CBS reservations on multi-core systems, that, on a new reservation arrival, is capable of exploiting better the CPU capacity in cases in which tasks have just recently left the CPU (for example, due to termination or migration to a different CPU). This is particularly useful for highly dynamic scenarios (with frequent arrivals of new tasks or leaves of existing ones) or when adaptive and possibly power-aware partitioning techniques (in which task migrations are triggered quite often to re-balance the workload among the available cores) are used

    This paper presents RT-Kubernetes, a software architecture with the ability to deploy real-time software components within containers in cloud infrastructures. The deployment of containers with guaranteed CPU scheduling is obtained by using a hierarchical real-time scheduler based on the Linux SCHED_DEADLINE policy. Preliminary experimental results provide evidence that this new framework succeeds in providing timeliness guarantees in the target responsiveness range, while achieving strong temporal isolation among containers co-located on the same physical hosts

Moreover, quality control frameworks for developing supplier diversity programs in manufacturing necessitates strategic planning, which is necessary to support supplier diversity initiatives. For instance, questions that supplier diversity managers must ask include, Does the company have an existing minority supplier program? If so, what are its pros, cons, and evaluative measures? If not, why hasn’t there been a supplier diversity program or why is it now defunct? Moreover, supplier diversity managers must develop, safeguard, and sustain supplier diversity programs by gaining support from leadership, create policy (institutionalize), and tie the SDP to organizational performance metrics

    Heuristic partitioning of real-time tasks on multi-processors

    This paper tackles the problem of admitting real-time tasks onto a symmetric multi-processor platform, where a partitioned EDF-based scheduler is used. We propose to combine a well-known utilization-based test for the first-fit partitioning strategy, with a simple heuristic based on the number of tasks and exact knowledge of the utilization of the first few biggest tasks. This results in an effective and efficient test improving on the state of the art in terms of admitted tasks, as shown by extensive tests performed on task sets generated using the widely adopted randfixedsum algorithm

    Container-Based Real-Time Scheduling in the Linux Kernel

    In recent years, there has been a growing interest in supporting component-based software development of complex real-time embedded systems. Techniques such as machine virtualisation have emerged as interesting mechanisms to enhance the security of these platforms, while real-time scheduling techniques have been proposed to guarantee temporal isolation of different virtualised components sharing the same physical resources. This combination also highlighted criticalities due to overheads introduced by hypervisors, particularly for low-end embedded devices. This led to the need of investigating deeper into solutions based on lightweight virtualisation alternatives, such as containers. In this context, this paper proposes to use a real-time deadline-based scheduling policy built into the Linux kernel to provide temporal scheduling guarantees to different co-located containers. The proposed solution extends the SCHED_DEADLINE scheduling policy to schedule Linux control groups, allowing user threads to be scheduled with fixed priorities inside the control group scheduled by SCHED_DEADLINE. The proposed mechanism can be configured via control groups, and it is compatible with commonly used tools such as LXC, Docker and similar. This solution is compatible with existing hierarchical real-time scheduling analysis, and some experiments demonstrate consistency between theory and practice

    Effects of daily gain in pre- and postpubertal replacement dairy heifers on body condition score, body size, metabolic profile, and future milk production.

    Two trials were conducted to evaluate the effect of moderate (0.7 kg) and accelerated (0.9 kg) average daily gain before (trial 1) and after (trial 2) puberty on body condition, metabolic profile, and first lactation milk production of Italian Holstein-Friesian heifers. There were 20 heifers in trial 1 and 22 in trial 2. Trials started when heifers averaged 150 and 300 kg of body weight in trial 1 and 2, respectively, and lasted 7 mo (experimental period). Across diet groups, half of the heifers were mated at first estrus after 370 kg and the other half after 420 kg of body weight gain. Actual average daily gains were 0.667 and 0.775 kg in trial 1 and 0.748 and 0.824 kg in trial 2 for moderate and accelerated experimental groups, respectively. Diets for high average daily gain did not affect body condition during growing phase in trial 1, whereas it did in trial 2. High average daily gain increased plasma glucose in trial 1 and plasma urea concentration in trial 2. Rearing diet did not affect milk production and milk protein percent; age in both trials. High average daily gain decreased milk fat percentage in trial 2. Early calving negatively influenced milk production in both trials and milk fat percentage in trial 1. Early calving heifers showed higher protein percentage than those with late calving only in trial 1
